April 2010: Day Meeting in Liverpool

Youth Council members were all invited to attend the fifth day meeting, held in the splendid surrounds of Liverpool Cathedral.

Our discussions focussed on the rite of Confirmation. Group discussions took place in the morning, followed by participation in the cathedral's lunchtime Eucharist, and then our own feast of sandwiches and nibbles. Our findings and experience were then discussed in a debate on Confirmation in the afternoon, from which a small delegation would present our views to the Archbishops' Council.

We ended the day with a Bible study looking at Discipleship - the passages of the Gospels of Matthew, 5:43-48, and Mark, 8:31-37 - and a recessional act of worship in the Chapter House.

Please see our agenda and minutes, or a more detailed Event Report for more information.

December 2009: 5th Birthday Party

CEYC's fifth birthday celebrations reached a climax on 28 November as a service of thanksgiving held at Westminster Abbey took place.

Led by the Dean, the Very Reverend John Hall, members of CEYC past, present and future joined together to give thanks to God for the fellowship and education that it has brought in the five years since inauguration.

Relatives, friends from youth movements past, members of General Synod and senior staff of the Education Division all took part in the service, braving the bracing wind and rain on entry, and subsequently handed a slice of birthday cake on exit!

Check out the 5th Birthday page for more information.

November 2009: Fifth CEYC residential

CEYC met for the fifth annual residential meeting at the High Leigh Conference Centre, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire between 13-15 November.

The weekend focused on 'Mind, Body and Soul', taken from the words of Jesus in Matthew 22:37. The programme included discussions and debates on Christian Life and Ethics, Assisted Suicide and Radical Faith. Along with worship, prayer and a celebration of the Eucharist, we also held a small party for CEYC's fifth birthday.

April 2009: Day Meeting in Leeds

On 25 April members of CEYC journeyed to Leeds for the fourth day meeting, taking us back to the Ecclesiastical Province of York after a short hiatus. We met at the Diocesan Office of Ripon and Leeds, kindly invited and welcomed by Diocesan Youth Officer Nic Sheppard.

The day's discussions focused on the Church of England Youth Strategy, Money Matters for Young People, and the Anglican Communion and Covenant. In addition, we held a Bible study session, worshipped the Lord Jesus in song, and met in regional groups to discuss potential outings over the summer.

During the day we were most privileged to be addressed by the Right Rev'd Clive Handford, former Primate of Jerusalem and the Middle East, Chairman of the Windsor Continuation Group and Assistant Bishop of Ripon and Leeds. We are most grateful to Bishop Clive for making an informative and engaging presentation on the Anglican Communion.

See the Event Report for further information.

  • Money matters? - A look at how the economic downturn is affecting youth...

November 2008: Fourth CEYC residential

The 21-23 November saw the fourth CEYC full council residential, attracting Council members across the Church of England to debate, worship and talk together.

The weekend's debates focused on the issues surrounding the appointment of women as bishops, the rise of knife crime and a discussion entitled 'How Would Jesus Vote?' which looked at youth and Christian engagement with politics. Alongside this, the weekend also included a craft workshop, Bible study and various different services all combining to create a challenging and deeply special weekend!

Many thanks go to William Fittall and Dean Pusey for excellent outside contributions to the debates on women as bishops and knife crime respectively.

September 2008: Gap Year Student

After a very successful summer internship for CEYC, the Council now has an intern for the full academic year!

Jen Bates spends two days a week at Church House, Westminster, solely devoted to all things CEYC! The year works in conjunction with the ‘YES Encounter Scheme’, run by Chichester Diocese, to provide a church placement and wider training throughout the time. So far, the year has been excellent, and both CEYC and Jen have gained much already!

The opportunity will be running again next September; if you’d like to know more, please contact us.
